Construction Controller - Bartlett, IL
Our client is a rapidly growing general contractor involved in the commercial & retail construction sector near Bartlett, IL. With a strong reputation for quality, this firm places a high value on professionalism, integrity, and teamwork.
Reporting into the CFO, the Controller will manage all aspects of the accounting & finance function including job costing and internal controls, corporate accounting, regulatory and financial reporting, as well as the development of internal control policies and procedures in the construction industry.

Description
Controller Responsibilities:
- Manage the accounting operations, including accounts payable/receivable, payroll, job costing, and general ledger management.
- Oversee monthly, quarterly, and yearly closing activities; ensure financial reports are accurate and GAAP-compliant.
- Develop and improve systems for job cost accounting and financial tracking at the project level.
- Collaborate with project managers and estimators to assess budgets, track job costs, and evaluate project profitability.
- Establish and enforce internal controls, financial policies, and standard operating procedures.
- Deliver timely financial statements, cash flow projections, and variance analyses to support leadership decisions.
- Lead and support the accounting team, managing daily transaction processing and staff development.
- Manage external audit and tax processes, serving as the primary liaison with outside accountants.
- Contribute to the development of budgets, forecasts, and long-term financial plans.
- Assist in assessing and implementing financial systems and technology, including ERP and job costing software.
Profile
A successful Controller should have:
- A degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field
- 5+ years of experience in construction accounting, ideally with a general contractor
- Proven experience as a Controller
- Management experience
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong leadership qualities and a team-oriented mindset
Job Offer
- Compensation of between $150,000- $160,000 depending on skills and experience
- Bonus potential of up to 10%
