Mechanical Engineer III - Optical Coating - REMOTE (Northeast)

Description

  • Design and develop mechanical systems and components for optical filters, coatings, and assemblies.
  • Perform engineering analysis, including thermal, structural, and vibration assessments, to optimize designs.
  • Work closely with optical, manufacturing, and quality teams to ensure seamless integration of mechanical designs.
  • Develop and maintain detailed 3D CAD models and engineering drawings using industry-standard software (e.g., SolidWorks, Creo).
  • Define and execute test plans to validate mechanical designs and material selection.
  • Collaborate with suppliers and internal teams to source materials and ensure manufacturability.
  • Lead and support continuous improvement initiatives for product performance and cost efficiency.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers.
  • Support on-site troubleshooting, prototyping, and production ramp-up activities.
  • Travel to various sites based on on-going projects, staying overnight.

Profile

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
  • Minimum of 8+ years of experience in mechanical design and engineering, preferably in the optics or precision manufacturing industry.
  • Strong proficiency in 3D CAD software (SolidWorks, Creo, or equivalent) and FEA analysis tools.
  • Experience with thermal management, material selection, and mechanical tolerancing.
  • Knowledge of optical systems and precision alignment techniques is a plus.
  • Ability to travel 40%-60% of the time to company sites across the Northeast.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently in a remote environment.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with cross-functional teams.
