Controls Engineer - Industrial Automation - Weymouth, MA
This is a senior-level Controls Engineer opportunity with a leading automation and packaging equipment manufacturer. The role offers the chance to take ownership of PLC and motion control design, programming, and implementation for complex automated systems used in high-performance packaging solutions.

Description
This Controls Engineer will:
- Design, develop, and implement PLC-based control systems for automated packaging equipment.
- Program and integrate Rockwell CompactLogix/ControlLogix/RSLogix systems.
- Create and modify HMI interfaces and motion control applications.
- Design electrical control panels and wiring layouts using AutoCAD.
- Collaborate with mechanical and electrical engineers on system integration and performance optimization.
- Troubleshoot, diagnose, and resolve automation and control system issues.
- Support limited travel for system installation, commissioning, and field service.
- Contribute to modernization initiatives and automation architecture improvements.
- Stay current with emerging trends in industrial controls, automation, and instrumentation.
Profile
A successful Controls Engineer candidate will have:
- B.S. in Electrical or Mechatronics Engineering (or equivalent technical degree).
- 7+ years of experience in industrial automation or controls engineering.
- Proficient in Allen-Bradley PLC programming (CompactLogix, ControlLogix, RSLogix, Ladder Logic).
- Skilled in motion control, HMI development, and servo systems integration.
- Proficient with AutoCAD for electrical panel and system design.
- Demonstrates strong troubleshooting and hands-on problem-solving abilities.
- Experienced with electrical panel layout, wiring, and system commissioning.
- Comfortable working independently as the primary on-site Controls Engineer.
- Strong communicator who collaborates effectively with mechanical, electrical, and manufacturing teams.
- Detail-oriented with solid project management and documentation skills.
