Operations Manager - Plastic Manufacturing - Attleboro, MA

The Operations Manager will oversee operations for a thermoforming manufacturing plant located near Attleboro, MA, focusing on driving operational performance, implementing manufacturing improvements, and fostering employee development. This role requires the leadership necessary to achieve Operational Excellence while managing and enhancing the plant's daily operations and strategic direction.

My client is an innovative food packaging manufacturer with high profile clients and state of the art technology. They are invested in thermoforming technology that challenges industry standards and sustainability efforts.

Description

In this role you will report directly into the VP of Operations and be responsible for:

  • Driving safety as the top priority and setting an example for the organization.
  • Overseeing, planning, and coordinating manufacturing teams, including Production, Quality, Material Handling, Material Scheduling, Environmental Health & Safety, and Maintenance.
  • Coordinating with Human Resources, Accounting, and Purchasing teams to ensure clear communication of needs and goals while taking actions to fully support manufacturing.
  • Ensuring compliance with SQF requirements and serving as a leader and resource during audit processes.
  • Verifying that all materials comply with product stewardship requirements.
  • Ensuring safety and environmental policies and procedures align with OSHA, EPA, and local, state, and federal standards.
  • Establishing systems to collect metric data, analyzing productivity, and setting targets to meet production goals.
  • Creating a positive work environment by modeling core values such as growth, excellence, and teamwork.
  • Identifying and coordinating Continuous Improvement projects to enhance safety, productivity, and quality outcomes.
  • Reviewing, tracking, and reporting on production and operational metrics.
  • Developing operational standards to standardize key plant processes and practices across locations.
  • Driving continual improvement in conversion costs and productivity through Operational Excellence and other initiatives.
  • Utilizing ERP tools effectively to manage inventory accuracy and minimize material variances.
  • Developing and maintaining an effective reporting and forecasting system, ensuring accuracy while evaluating weekly and monthly production and financial results, investigating variances, and collaborating with Finance to implement corrective or improvement actions.
  • Ensuring ongoing compliance with SQF/ISO requirements.

Profile

The successful candidate will have:

  • 10+ years of Senior Operations leadership experience
  • Plastics/Thermoforming/ Packaging Industry experience
  • Demonstrated leadership abilities in training and motivating employees
  • Strategic thinker with proven problem-solving skills
  • Lean and Six Sigma knowledge
  • Customer centric mindset
