Defense - Design Engineer - Stratham, NH

This position focuses on designing moderately complex mechanical subsystems for new and existing products within an advanced robotics and defense‑oriented engineering environment. The role requires strong CAD proficiency, robust analytical capability, and the ability to independently develop test plans, evaluate results, and drive design improvements. Collaboration across engineering, manufacturing, product management, and quality teams is central to success.

Description



Responsibilities:

  • Develop innovative mechanical subsystem designs aligned with performance and cost objectives.
  • Create and review detailed drawings with proper GD&T and ASME Y14.5 compliance.
  • Perform FEA, motion, CFD, or heat‑transfer analyses to validate designs.
  • Manage part and assembly revisions through PLM systems.
  • Build structured test plans, work with technicians, analyze data, and produce formal reports.
  • Lead DFM discussions and propose cost‑reduction opportunities.
  • Support supplier quality by reviewing inspection data and determining non‑conformance dispositions.
  • Contribute to intellectual property (patents, trade studies).
  • Maintain 5S standards and participate in continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Follow all safety and ISO procedures, including safe handling of technical equipment.

Profile



Ideal Candidate:

  • B.S. in Mechanical Engineering with 3-6 years of R&D or product development experience.
  • Strong CAD skills (SolidWorks preferred) and familiarity with PLM systems (Agile is a plus).
  • Capable of performing moderately complex engineering analyses.
  • Solid understanding of machining, molding, stamping, forging, and other manufacturing processes.
  • Skilled in GD&T, tolerance stacks, and producing clean, functional drawings.
  • Experience in power transmission or mechanical assemblies is advantageous.
  • Comfortable working independently with limited guidance while collaborating cross‑functionally.
  • Hands‑on mechanical aptitude and the ability to diagnose problems through data and structured testing.
