Test Engineer | Automotive
This is an exciting Test Engineer position with a manufacturer of alternators for heavy duty vehicles. This role will oversee all product testing (electrical, mechanical performance) in a lab environment utilizing Data Acquisition equipment and software. Client Details
Our client is a leading manufacturer of various output alternators and power management solutions for automotive, industrial, and military applications. Located in the near northern suburbs of Chicago, they have seen steady business growth and are looking to bolster their test engineering laboratory for customer satisfaction.
Description
- Execute testing on advanced automotive electrical system components to verify functionality and performance.
- Create and document detailed test plans along with clear, concise test reports.
- Keep thorough and accurate records of all testing activities, results, and documentation.
- Develop and carry out tests and experiments in alignment with industry standards.
- Safely operate high-power and rotating test equipment during evaluations.
- Design and build specialized test fixtures and custom testing setups.
- Work closely with Design Engineering, Quality Assurance, and customers to support testing needs.
- Utilize methodologies such as Design of Experiments (DOE) and Highly Accelerated Life Testing (HALT).
- Plan and perform formal qualification testing and first article validation.
- Improve testing efficiency and capacity by introducing innovative processes and methods.
- Coordinate with third-party laboratories for specialized testing not conducted internally.
Profile
- ITAR Compliance
- Mechanical or Electrical Engineering Degree
- 5+ years of experience in product testing, ideally in an automotive setting
- Experience with DAQ (Data Acquisition), specific experience with LabView strongly preferred
- Strong analytical and problem solving abilities
- Experience with military and automotive performance and testing standards preferred
- Experience with Script Programming a plus
- Experience with simulation tools such as PSpice, Matlab or Simulink preferred
