Controller
The Controller will lead the Accounting and Finance function, taking full ownership of day-to-day operations while ensuring accuracy, control, and timeliness across all financial activities. This role is hands-on, highly operational, and plays a key role in developing the team, strengthening processes, and ensuring reliable financial reporting for executive leadership.
Client Details
My client is a full-service general contractor delivering complex construction projects across commercial, residential, and infrastructure sectors. They manage projects end to end, coordinating subcontractors, schedules, and budgets to ensure quality execution, safety, and on-time delivery. Description
Provide leadership and oversight for the full Accounting and Finance team, including the Accounting Manager, Financial Accountant(s), Payroll Supervisor, AP Supervisor, and Staff Accountants
Manage daily operations of a large finance team, ensuring deadlines, quality standards, and SOPs are consistently met
Own the year-end close process and oversee monthly and quarterly close activities
Review, verify, and validate all financial information prior to submission to senior leadership
Prepare and deliver financial reporting and analysis for Board meetings
Present financial results and insights to the CFO and CEO
Maintain strong quality controls across accounting and finance deliverables
Establish, maintain, and enforce finance team standard operating procedures and timelines
Oversee project management related to finance initiatives, audits, and reporting deadlines
Act as a subject matter expert across accounting and finance, stepping in where needed
- Balance being detail-oriented and 'in the weeds' while maintaining oversight of the entire function
Profile
Subject matter expertise across accounting and finance
10+ years of progressive experience in accounting and finance
5-7 years of construction accounting experience (required)
Proven experience leading, managing, and developing accounting teams
Strong technical accounting background
Demonstrated ability to take control of teams and improve performance
Proactive, high-initiative leadership style
Experience working effectively in a family-owned or closely held business environment
- Experience with COINS (or similar construction-specific ERP) is a plus, but not required
