Controller

The Controller will lead the day-to-day accounting and financial reporting function. Reporting directly to the CEO/President this individual will play a critical role in ensuring accurate financial reporting, strengthening controls, and supporting the continued scalability of the business. ASC 842 Lease Accounting experience is required.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Reporting & Close

• Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
• Lead the monthly close process, including preparation of investor reporting and financial 'report cards'
• Prepare cash flow reporting and analysis
• Perform detailed account reconciliations and balance sheet reviews

Accounting Operations

• Oversee day-to-day accounting activities across the business
• Review and approve invoices and disbursements
• Manage lease accounting and related compliance
• Oversee annual tax accounting and year-end processes
• Support account analysis and variance explanations

Leadership & Team Management

• Directly manage a staff of 2
• Provide guidance, review work product, and support team development
• Work closely with the Payroll and HR Generalist on payroll, benefits, and compliance matters

Compliance & Administration

• Manage insurance renewals across the business
• Oversee workers' compensation audits
• Support 401(k) administration and compliance
• Coordinate with external advisors as needed

Business Support & Process Improvement

• Support launch of new products and services
• Identify and implement opportunities to improve efficiency, processes, and internal controls
• Contribute to pricing analysis and renegotiation efforts where applicable
• Partner with senior leadership on ad hoc financial analysis and operational initiatives

Profile

Essential

• Minimum 3 years of accounting experience within small to medium-sized businesses
• Hands-on experience preparing financial statements and managing month-end close
• Lease accounting experience (required)
• Strong financial reporting and account analysis experience
• Background in environments where accuracy, ownership, and accountability are critical

Desirable

• Experience with Sage 100 and Sage Intelligence Reports
• Experience working with external auditors
• Exposure to growing or evolving business models

Education

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related discipline preferred (flexible for the right experience)
