Operations Manager - Chemical Manufacturing - Barrington, RI

As operations manager you will oversee daily production activities, ensuring adherence to safety and environmental regulations while optimizing efficiency and quality. You will manage production teams, coordinate supply chains, and implement standard operating procedures to meet organizational goals.

Description

In this role you will report directly into the Plant Manager and be responsible for:

  • 5-6 direct reports from the Operations team
  • Overseeing production, supply chain, and continuous improvement to ensure efficient, profitable manufacturing operations.
  • Preparing and controlling departmental budgets, leading safety, housekeeping, quality, and cost reduction initiatives.
  • Developing and implementing operational plans, goals, budgets, and capital requirements to enhance planning accuracy.
  • Developing floor supervision, promoting positive employee relations, and facilitating communication across all organizational levels.
  • Mentoring and coaching personnel, directly supervising departments, and coordinating activities to achieve site objectives.
  • Collaborating with cross-functional partners to ensure on-time delivery of high-quality, safe, and efficient products while maximizing capacity and minimizing costs.
  • Directing production and supply chain leaders, coordinating interdepartmental strategies, and linking functional management as part of the site leadership team.
  • Ensuring compliance with programs, policies, procedures, and company and governmental standards.
  • Managing production and supply chain teams to foster collaboration and achieve a 100% positive customer experience.
  • Leading project management and continuous improvement teams to implement cost-effective, state-of-the-art processes aligned with Operational Excellence and WCM methodologies.
  • Engaging daily with stakeholders and customers to meet their needs and priorities.
  • Conducting interviews and assisting in hiring processes.
  • Overseeing performance management, team development, and continuous learning for assigned team members.
  • Monitoring individual performance, conducting evaluations, and coordinating staff availability.
  • Working independently and holding employees accountable for following procedures and achieving results.
  • Ensuring equipment is maintained in safe working condition and enforcing all safety procedures and policies.
  • Monitoring output, productivity, waste, downtime, and business process effectiveness.
  • Researching and addressing gaps between targets and actual results daily.
  • Auditing areas to ensure adherence to safety, cleanliness, processes, and methodologies.
  • Implementing concepts and techniques to drive continuous performance improvement.
  • Upholding the highest standards of excellence.
  • Performing additional duties as assigned by the Plant Manager.
  • Demonstrating initiative and meeting commitments and deadlines with minimal supervision.
  • Maintaining a safe and quality-focused work ethic.
  • Understanding standard operating procedures related to department activities.
  • Possessing knowledge of materials and inventory control practices, as well as production scheduling in a manufacturing environment.

Profile

The successful candidate will have:

  • 10+ years of Manufacturing environment experience and at least 6+ years in a leadership role
  • ISO and Lean environment experience
  • Day-to-day operations focus
  • Manufactures plastics and chemicals primarily for the aerospace industry
  • Analytical problem solving skills
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
