Controller

The client are a brilliant (fast-growing) organization, that specialize in the building and construction of environmental projects. The office is based in Ocean Township (New Jersey) and will soon be opening an office in Woodbridge (NJ) - they are open to candidates from either area. they are looking for a Controller with prior experience in the construction industry to help manage the day to day accounting operations, and support the company's President.

Client Details

The client are growing very quickly and mainly work on commercial and federal construction projects across NJ, MA and PA. The company has a headcount of approximately 30, and the finance team is lean. The successful Controller will be one of 2 people and they will report directly into the President of the company. They will directly manage a Billing Administrator in the role and is an exciting opportunity for someone to lead the finance team.

Description

The successful Controller will:

• Lead month-end close and general ledger management
• Prepare monthly and annual GAAP-compliant financial statements
• Lead budgeting, forecasting, and financial performance analysis
• Oversee job cost accounting, WIP reporting, and percentage-of-completion revenue recognition
• Monitor project margins, backlog, and over/under billings
• Supervise AP, AR, and billing functions (Billing Administrator reports to Controller)
• Maintain internal controls and improve accounting systems and processes
• Support cash flow forecasting, working capital management, and capital expenditure planning
• Coordinate with external CPA firm and assist with bonding and financial compliance requirements
• Manage 1 direct report

Profile

The successful Controller will:

• Have approximately 10 years of experience in finance and accounting
• Have a wealth of experience working in the construction industry (heavily preferred)
• Have a strong background in cost accounting and with construction revenue recognition
• Strong Excel skills
• Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance required
• Prior working knowledge of the systems Quickbooks or ProCas (desirable, note essential)
• Excellent written and verbal communications skills

Job Offer

• $125,000 - $150,000 (can be slightly flexible)
