Mechanical Designer
The Mechanical Designer is responsible for supporting the development, fabrication, and evaluation of concepts, products, test fixtures, and process equipment through the creation and maintenance of detailed 3D models and engineering drawings. This role also involves providing hands-on support for devices in laboratory settings, test environments, and technology demonstrations as needed.

Our Client is a privately held medical device company with 40+ years of history in developing, manufacturing, and marketing minimally invasive surgical devices aimed at improving patient outcomes across various specialties, including cardiac, general, gynecologic, and urologic surgery.
Description
- Translate between 3D Models (Inventor) and 2D Drawings (AutoCAD).
- Responsible for using AutoCAD and Autodesk Inventor to develop 2D or refine 3D models for prototyping and/or release.
- Responsible for drawing and/or modeling tools and equipment for fixtures and engineering design libraries.
- Design and detail components and assemblies of low complexity.
- Participate in design reviews and new product development teams.
- Create and update patent drawings and technical illustrations.
- Check drawings and models for accuracy, design intent, and conformance to drawing and modeling standards.
- Design basic tooling and fixtures to support the manufacture and testing of products or prototypes.
- Communicate issues, improvements, and project status to peers, engineers, and immediate manager.
- Provide mentorship on AutoCAD and Inventor drafting and modeling techniques, tips and tricks, and
problem-solving. - Design and detail of complex components and assemblies.
- Convey and verify design intent and drawing dimensioning and tolerancing schemes.
- Communicate issues, improvements, and project status to peers, engineers, managers, and directors.
- Contribute to the development of applicable dFMEAs.
Profile
- 2D CAD and solid modeling proficiency required. AutoCAD, Autodesk Inventor preferred. SolidWorks is a plus.
- Formal CAD training is a plus.
- Associates degree applied science or technical arts is required; mechanical design or design related specialties is preferred.
- Medical device experience or experience in a regulated industry preferred.
- Experience with product data management (PDM) is desired. Autodesk Vault is a plus.
- Able to complete intermediate to advanced level tasks in Autodesk Inventor and AutoCAD 2D.
- Working knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T), tolerance stack ups, Design for Manufacturing & Assembly (DFMA, Design for Reliability.
- Basic knowledge of design failure mode and effects analysis (dFMEA).
- Basic understanding of materials treatments, conditioning, and finishes as well as post processing technologies.
