Project Manager - High Tech/Life Science - South Bay

Michael Page San Jose, CA (Onsite) Full-Time
$150,000 - $170,000/Year

The Project Manager will help estimate and lead the construction project, as well as ensure positive project results both through leadership and mentoring of the project team. They will be focused on working on projects in the high-tech and life science space. Along with managing a team, they will also implement clear and effective communication skills to build and maintain lasting client relationships.

This client is a well-established and family-owned general contractor focused on commercial projects in the Bay Area. Their projects include retail, office TI, medical, life science, and financial institutions. 85% of their clients are repeat clients as they not only value the quality of their work but also building strong relationships. They pride themselves on having a strong company culture and being a place where people want to work long-term; the average tenure of their employees is around 8 years.

Description

  • Maintain adherence to company's standards of safety
  • Create and manage project budget for all assigned projects
  • Develop and collaborate on pre-construction RFP package
  • Conduct project meetings, while setting milestones and formulating monthly owner reports
  • Establish job processes (RFIs, submittals, and pay applications) including approving pay applications and negotiating subcontract change orders
  • Perform project scheduling; ensure project quality control and establish overall project logistics
  • Manage the closeout process efficiently
  • Contact new and existing customers to discuss their needs while explaining how these needs could be met by specific company services
  • Supervise assistant operations support roles such as assistant project manager, administrative assistant, MEP managers, safety team members, etc.
  • Collaborate with the project superintendent and site operations team throughout the life of the project

Profile

  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, or related field.
  • 5+ years of experience managing construction projects, preferably in the life sciences, biotechnology, or pharmaceutical sectors.
  • Strong knowledge of building systems, including MEP, clean rooms, laboratories, and other specialized life science facilities.
  • Proficiency with project management software (e.g., Procore, Buildertrend, or MS Project).
  • Exceptional organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Looking for someone who can bring in their own book of business or have the ability to do that
  • Preferred to have someone with biotech and life science experience
  • Experience in putting together proposals and bids and can estimate all the way through project closeout
