Chief Estimator

The Chief Construction Estimator will lead our estimating team in Portland, Oregon. This role is responsible for overseeing cost estimation, bid preparation, and pricing strategies for commercial, residential, and infrastructure construction projects. The Chief Estimator will collaborate with project managers, engineers, and clients to ensure accurate, competitive, and profitable project bids.

Our client is a well-known top ENR commercial GC. Their projects range in size from $10M to $100-M in value, focusing on ground up construction and tenant improvement in the Portland, OR area. The company has experienced steady growth by actively choosing to have a diverse pipeline.

Description

  • Lead and manage the estimating team, ensuring accurate and timely project bids.

  • Develop cost estimates for labor, materials, equipment, and subcontractor pricing.

  • Analyze project specifications, drawings, and blueprints to determine scope and cost projections.

  • Collaborate with project managers, architects, and engineers to develop competitive pricing strategies.

  • Review and approve final bids before submission to clients.

  • Conduct risk assessments and identify cost-saving opportunities.

  • Maintain relationships with subcontractors, vendors, and suppliers to secure competitive pricing.

  • Stay up-to-date with market trends, local construction regulations, and industry best practices.

  • Assist in contract negotiations and change order evaluations.

  • Implement and refine estimating processes, software, and methodologies to improve efficiency.

Profile

  • Experience: Minimum 7-10 years of construction estimating experience, with at least 3-5 years in a leadership role.

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field preferred.

  • Technical Skills:

    • Proficiency in estimating software (e.g., Bluebeam, ProEst, PlanSwift, Sage Estimating, or similar).

    • Strong knowledge of construction methods, materials, and cost structures.

    • Ability to read and interpret architectural and engineering plans.

  • Leadership: Proven ability to mentor, manage, and develop a team of estimators.

  • Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills for client and stakeholder interactions.

  • Problem-Solving: Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.

  • Detail-Oriented: High level of accuracy and attention to detail in cost estimates and bid proposals
