Senior Quality Engineer l Crystal Lake, IL
The Senior Quality Engineer will be responsible for conducting audits to ensure compliance with ISO 9001 and AS 9100 as well as leading root cause and corrective action investigations.

Our client is a metal products manufacturer primarily serving the defense and military sectors. With over 100 years in business, they have contributed to high-profile space-age projects and everyday metal applications. Currently, they are experiencing significant growth and reinvesting in their facilities and workforce to maintain a top position with key customers. The Corporate Quality Manager will play a vital role in C-suite strategy while ensuring hands-on oversight at the operational level.
Description
- Participate in internal audits and closing meetings, communicate nonconformities, and maintain audit records. Review CAR audits, update results, and report findings. Train and mentor new and existing auditors to ensure consistent compliance and improvement.
- Lead verification, effectiveness measurement, and sustainability activities within the CAR process. Facilitate CARs and coach team members in structured problem-solving and root cause analysis.
- Serve as lead auditor for internal and supplier audits. Support external audits and customer witnesses by providing documentation and ensuring successful outcomes.
- Represent the company in communications with customers and third-party auditors regarding specifications, manufacturing capabilities, and quality concerns. Provide training to personnel on procedures and interpretation of specifications and drawings related to manufacturing, testing, and inspection.
- Create customer-facing deviations and corrective actions as needed. Lead and support structured problem-solving initiatives to identify root causes and implement lasting corrective actions.
- Collaborate with the chief inspector to enhance metrology systems including CMM, laser, and Romer technologies. Provide training in standard measurement devices and support final inspection teams in interpreting and using inspection tools effectively. Maintain current knowledge of 3D inspection technologies and supplier partnerships.
- Develop and maintain companywide quality metrics to support collaboration and performance tracking. Utilize data to identify and eliminate waste, improving efficiency and accuracy. Lead or participate in Lean and 6S initiatives.
- Work with purchasing and supply chain partners to create and standardize inspection plans. Support the evaluation and disposition of nonconformances and promote consistent quality performance throughout the supply base.
- Oversee calibration and measurement system validation processes. Ensure timely calibration, record accuracy, and compliance with standards. Coordinate in-house calibration procedures, review certifications, and evaluate product impact from uncalibrated equipment. Educate gage owners on proper record management and equipment preservation.
- Promote a safe work environment by following policies and providing feedback to improve workplace safety. Collaborate with all team members to maintain a strong, cooperative culture focused on quality and continuous improvement.
Profile
- Minimum 5+ years of quality manufacturing experience
- Bachelor's degree is required
- Understanding of ISO 9001
- AS 9100 experience is preferred
- Experience leading internal and external audits
- Experience with metrology and machining
- Experience within a job shop environment
