QC Manager

The QC Manager will oversee quality control processes within the construction department, ensuring all property projects meet established standards and regulations. This role is based in Columbus and offers an opportunity to lead quality assurance efforts in a professional and structured environment.

Description

Responsibilities:

  • Create Test Logs based on Project Specifications and Drawings
  • Perform in-house testing of window, metal panel, roofing, and other facades at time of installation.
  • Coordinate on-site installation inspections of sub-contract work based on specs, drawings, submittals, and contracts
  • Have an understanding of Industry Standards, Specifications, Manufacturers Requirements, and Project Documentation
  • Be able to successfully plan and run pre-installation meetings with project team, subcontractors, third party testing, AOR/EOR, and owner.
  • Capable of successfully troubleshooting issues during construction and post.
  • Flexibility in overseeing installations and effectively communicating defects with sub-contractors and project team.
  • Attend Kick-Off/ Turn Over, Pre-Install, and Coordination Meetings.
  • Construction Phase: Meet regularly, as appropriate with project team; Verify That Project Teams are conducting QC Inspections; Verify that QC Inspection Logs are being kept and are up to date; Verify that deficiency lists are being kept up to date; Verify that Subs are participating in the Project's QC Program; Monitor recording of QC metrics
  • Assist in any hands-on activities that may be needed to help project teams meet mile markers and deadlines.
  • Review project specific third-party consulting documents.
  • Review submittals periodically for spec conformance, constructability, and pertinent installation requirements pertaining to QC.
  • Project Completion Follow-up: Take part in/oversee project post-mortem meetings
  • Identify major QC issues that occurred since previous self-evaluation; Develop personal goals to meet during the following year; Evaluate if goals from previous self-evaluation period were met.
  • Read, interpret, and troubleshoot drawing details in conjunction with project team plans to successfully execute installation

Communicate effectively with project managers and superintendents providing multiple options for repairs, installation procedures, and other sensitive (cost and execution) issues Additional Responsibilities:

  • QC Program Outreach: Develop Relationships in the QC community; Identify QC trends in the Construction Industry; Collaborate with American Contractors Insurance Group (AGIC) Quality Incentives
  • QC Training: Identify QC training programs that will benefit project development; Identify materials and equipment that improve/enhance our QC Program; Conduct QC Program Classes; Establish Post Training Follow-ups to verify that training is effective
  • Provide information about the quality of subcontractors; Aid in development of RFP's sections related to QC, Review Contract Documents for Critical Building Envelope components
  • Assist in the training/orientation of project teams when needed.
  • Assist in the employment processes as requested.
  • Promote teamwork and positive communication among employees.
  • Attend and participate in miscellaneous site meetings, sharing knowledge, information, and ideas when needed

Profile

A successful QC Manager should have -

Skills and Abilities:

  • Microsoft Office
  • ACC/BIM 360/Procore or similar construction field management software
  • Knowledge of Infrared Camera technologies and how to implement
  • Ability to communicate effectively with PMs, Superintendents, Project Engineers, Subs, AE's and Owners
  • Written and oral communication skills
  • Comprehensive knowledge of building details and materials
  • Knowledge and understanding of relevant testing methods and standards
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills are essential.
  • Excellent organizational and planning skills. - Scheduling, Work Planning, etc.
  • Understanding specifications, codes, and standards.

Able to perform field testing of various kinds (windows, roofing, façade, etc.), troubleshoot/diagnose, and report findings. Education and Experience:

  • Higher Education/College Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or Architecture
  • Understanding of testing procedures, ASTMs, Reporting, and Remediation of work.
  • Quality management role for project(s)
  • Ten years in the construction or Architecture industry.
  • Diversity of large commercial construction projects (20 million-dollar contracts and above)
  • Large hospital, laboratory, and high-tech construction projects
  • Exterior building skin and MEP construction
  • We'd especially value someone with a field background - such as a superintendent, foreman, or experienced trades professional - who has spent years working with tools and understands construction quality from hands-on experience.
