Senior Grant Accountant

Description

  • Grant Management:

    • Maintain detailed records for all grants, including budgets, amendments, and compliance requirements.

    • Set up and monitor grant budgets in the accounting system.

    • Track and report expenses by funding source and ensure compliance with donor restrictions.

    • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial grant reports for funders and internal stakeholders.

  • Budgeting & Forecasting:

    • Support development of grant proposal budgets in collaboration with program and development teams.

    • Monitor budget-to-actual performance for each grant and alert management to any variances or concerns.

    • Assist with annual organizational budget as it relates to grant funding.

  • Compliance & Reporting:

    • Ensure proper allocation of expenses to grants and adherence to applicable regulations, including OMB Uniform Guidance.

    • Prepare documentation for audits, including Single Audit requirements.

    • Maintain knowledge of evolving grant requirements, financial standards, and reporting deadlines.

  • Accounting & Reconciliation:

    • Record and reconcile grant revenue, deferred revenue, and expenditures in accordance with GAAP and organizational policy.

    • Perform monthly and year-end closing activities related to grants.

    • Collaborate with accounts payable to ensure correct coding of grant-related expenses.

  • Other Duties:

    • Liaise with development and program staff to gather financial data for grant reports and proposals.

    • Participate in improving systems, policies, and procedures related to grant accounting.

    • Provide training or guidance to program staff on budget tracking and compliance.

Profile

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (CPA or nonprofit accounting certification a plus).

  • 3-5 years of experience in grant accounting, preferably in a nonprofit environment.

  • Strong understanding of nonprofit accounting standards and federal grant regulations (e.g., 2 CFR 200).

  • Experience with accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Blackbaud Financial Edge, MIP Fund Accounting).

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other Office applications.

  • Strong analytical, organizational, and time management skills.

  • Ability to communicate financial information clearly to non-finance staff.

  • Detail-oriented with a commitment to accuracy and integrity.
