This role leads technical accounting policy and serves as the key U.S. GAAP subject matter expert within a global organization, advising on complex transactions and high‑judgment issues including acquisitions, divestitures, and evolving business models.

Description

This role is responsible for leading technical accounting policy and ensuring the consistent application of U.S. GAAP across a complex, global organization. Acting as the primary subject matter expert, the Director advises on high‑judgment accounting matters and complex transactions, including acquisitions, divestitures, carve‑outs, and evolving business models. The position requires close partnership with cross‑functional teams such as SEC Reporting, Controllership, FP&A, Legal, and Tax to ensure accounting conclusions are technically sound and aligned with broader business objectives.

In addition to supporting complex transactions, the role focuses on building and maintaining scalable accounting policies, strong governance frameworks, and robust documentation standards. The Director prepares and reviews technical accounting memoranda, supports audit and regulatory requirements, and ensures all positions are well‑documented and SOX‑compliant. This is a high‑visibility leadership role that plays a critical part in enhancing financial reporting quality, supporting public‑company readiness, and guiding the organization through ongoing growth and transformation.




Key Responsibilities

  • Lead technical accounting research, interpretation, and policy development under U.S. GAAP across complex and non‑routine areas
  • Serve as the primary subject matter expert advising on accounting treatment for strategic initiatives and key transactions
  • Prepare and review technical accounting memoranda supporting positions for auditors and internal stakeholders
  • Provide guidance on acquisitions, divestitures, carve‑outs, spin‑offs, and other complex transactions
  • Advise on accounting for revenue recognition (ASC 606), stock‑based compensation (ASC 718), goodwill and intangibles (ASC 350), leases (ASC 842), and other key areas
  • Partner cross‑functionally with SEC Reporting, Controllership, FP&A, Legal, Tax, Corporate Development, and external auditors
  • Support public‑company readiness and transformation initiatives, including standalone financial reporting and disclosure requirements
  • Develop and maintain global accounting policies, governance frameworks, and documentation standards
  • Ensure all accounting conclusions are SOX‑compliant, well‑documented, and audit‑ready
  • Act as a trusted advisor to senior finance leadership, translating complex accounting guidance into practical business decisions

Profile



Ideal Candidate

  • CPA required with a Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance
  • Big 4 foundation strongly preferred (audit or accounting advisory), with experience in public accounting, or a mix of public accounting and industry
  • 10+ years of progressive accounting experience, including time in a public company or large, complex multinational environment


Technical Accounting Expertise

The successful candidate will bring deep, hands‑on expertise across key U.S. GAAP areas, including:

  • Revenue Recognition (ASC 606) - including subscription, multi‑element arrangements, contract modifications, and complex revenue streams
  • Business Combinations (ASC 805) - purchase accounting, valuation coordination, goodwill and intangible asset recognition
  • Stock‑Based Compensation (ASC 718) - equity awards, modifications, valuation considerations, and disclosures
  • Goodwill & Intangible Assets (ASC 350) - impairment testing, valuation inputs, and ongoing monitoring
  • Leases (ASC 842) - accounting for lease arrangements and embedded leases
  • Debt & Financing (ASC 470) - including issuances, modifications, extinguishments, and covenant considerations
  • Derivatives & Hedging (ASC 815) - valuation and accounting treatment for complex instruments (as applicable)


Experience with Complex Transactions

  • Demonstrated experience supporting acquisitions, divestitures, carve‑outs, and spin‑off transactions
  • Involvement in purchase accounting, balance sheet separation, and integration activities
  • Experience navigating non‑routine, high‑judgment accounting issues


Reporting, Controls & Governance

  • Strong experience preparing and reviewing technical accounting memoranda
  • Familiarity with SEC reporting and disclosure requirements in a public‑company environment
  • Experience operating within a SOX‑compliant control framework, with strong documentation and governance discipline


Leadership & Stakeholder Management

  • Proven ability to partner with senior stakeholders, including Finance leadership, Legal, Tax, FP&A, and external auditors
  • Capable of translating complex accounting guidance into clear, practical business recommendations
  • Comfortable operating in a high‑visibility, fast‑paced environment with competing priorities
