The Inventory Cost Accounting Manager oversees the accurate tracking, analysis, and reporting of inventory-related costs. This role requires a highly analytical and detail-focused professional who can manage complex inventory processes, ensure compliance with accounting standards, and deliver insights that support strong financial performance.

Description

  • Inventory Cost Management: Manage the accurate recording of all inventory transactions, including purchases, transfers, adjustments, and disposals. Ensure costs are properly assigned and reflect the true cost of goods sold.
  • Cost Analysis & Reporting: Develop and deliver detailed cost analyses and inventory-related financial reports. Identify inefficiencies and recommend improvements to enhance accuracy and streamline processes.
  • Compliance & Auditing: Maintain compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and other applicable regulations. Support and coordinate internal and external audits related to inventory accounting.
  • Inventory Valuation: Perform regular inventory valuations and reconciliations. Monitor inventory trends and evaluate their financial impact.
  • Reserves Analysis: Calculate and analyze inventory reserves, partnering with supply chain teams to assess and determine appropriate reserve levels.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with supply chain, operations, and other departments to ensure accurate inventory tracking and costing. Provide financial guidance and insights to support decision-making.
  • Month-End Close: Oversee month-end close activities for inventory-related accounts, including associated e-commerce transactions and sales tax processes handled through third-party systems.
  • Team Leadership: Lead, mentor, and develop a team of inventory accounting professionals. Provide training, direction, and performance feedback to maintain a high-performing team.
  • Variance Analysis: Work with financial planning teams to analyze differences between actual and budgeted costs, providing explanations and recommending corrective actions.
  • Process Improvement: Continuously evaluate and enhance inventory accounting processes. Implement best practices and stay informed on industry trends and system advancements.

Profile

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Accounting or a related field; CPA preferred.
  • Experience: At least 5 years of experience in inventory or cost accounting, including a minimum of 1 year in a leadership role.
  • Technical Skills: Strong proficiency in accounting and inventory systems, advanced Excel skills, and experience with ERP platforms (SAP Business One experience is a plus).
  • Analytical Ability: Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret complex data and provide actionable insights.
  • Attention to Detail: High level of accuracy in financial reporting and analysis.
  • Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to explain financial concepts to non-financial audiences.
  • Leadership: Demonstrated ability to lead, motivate, and develop a team.
  • Interpersonal Skills: Effective collaborator with the ability to work across departments.
  • Organization: Strong time management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Adaptability: Comfortable working in a dynamic, fast-paced environment and adjusting to changing business needs.
