ESG Controller, Director

Our client is seeking an experienced professional to join our clients' Finance Controllership team, focusing on Environment, Social, and Governance (ESG) reporting and controls. This individual will play a key role in establishing and overseeing ESG-related financial and non-financial reporting processes, ensuring compliance with evolving regulatory requirements, and supporting the firm's sustainability strategy.

Description

  • Lead the development and oversight of ESG-related reporting processes, including climate, carbon, diversity, governance, and other sustainability metrics.

  • Partner with cross-functional teams (Sustainability, Legal, Risk, Investor Relations, Finance) to ensure accurate, consistent, and timely ESG reporting.

  • Collaborate closely with the 2LOD (Risk & Compliance) to ensure ESG reporting controls align with the firm's risk management framework.

  • Work with the 3LOD (Internal Audit) to prepare for assurance reviews, support testing of ESG-related controls, and address audit findings.

  • Support external ESG disclosures, including SEC climate disclosure rules, CSRD (Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive), SASB, TCFD, and other relevant frameworks.

  • Establish and maintain internal controls over ESG data, ensuring alignment with SOX standards and audit readiness.

  • Develop policies, procedures, and documentation to support ESG reporting governance.

  • Monitor regulatory developments and emerging ESG reporting requirements, advising leadership on implications and readiness.

  • Provide management with ESG reporting insights to support strategic decision-making and investor communication.

  • Train and educate Finance and business partners on ESG-related reporting requirements.

Profile

  • Bachelor's degree required, MBA or other advanced degrees in relevant field is a plus.
  • 10+ years of experience in Financial Services in accounting, internal audit, controls or ESG sustainability.
  • Deep expertise in measuring carbon emissions across Scopes 1, 2, and 3, with knowledge of leading accounting frameworks and methodologies (e.g., PCAF, GHG Protocol.
