The Benefits Manager will oversee the administration and strategic planning of the firm's benefits programs, with a strong focus on health and welfare plans. This individual will ensure the firm's offerings remain competitive, cost-effective, and compliant, while also providing expert-level support to employees and internal stakeholders.

This organization is a leading international law firm with a collaborative and high-performing culture. With 1,500 employees across multiple offices, they are committed to providing an exceptional workplace experience for our attorneys and professional staff. They are seeking a highly knowledgeable and proactive Benefits Manager to join the Human Resources team in Washington, DC.

Description

  • Lead the day-to-day administration of all employee benefit programs, including medical, dental, vision, life insurance, disability, FSA/HSA, COBRA, and wellness initiatives.

  • Serve as the firm's subject matter expert on healthcare benefits, staying up-to-date with regulatory changes and market trends.

  • Manage relationships with external vendors, brokers, and consultants to optimize service delivery and resolve complex issues.

  • Oversee annual open enrollment, including communication strategy, system updates, testing, and employee support.

  • Conduct regular benefits audits and ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations (e.g., ERISA, ACA, HIPAA).

  • Partner with Finance on benefits budgeting and forecasting.

  • Analyze benefits data and trends to make recommendations for plan design and cost management.

  • Lead employee education efforts, creating resources and delivering presentations to ensure understanding of available benefits.

  • Respond to employee questions and issues with professionalism, empathy, and confidentiality.

  • Support the development and implementation of firm-wide wellness initiatives and leave programs (FMLA, ADA, etc.).

Profile

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field; CEBS certification is a plus.

  • 7+ years of benefits experience, with a strong command of healthcare plan management.

  • Prior experience in a law firm or professional services environment is strongly preferred.

  • Deep knowledge of relevant laws and regulations (ERISA, ACA, HIPAA, etc.).

  • Experience managing vendor relationships and leading open enrollment processes.

  • Exceptional analytical skills and attention to detail.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with a client-service orientation.

  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential matters with discretion.
