Senior Superintendent

The Superintendent is the on-site leader responsible for field execution-planning, coordinating, and supervising day-to-day construction activities to deliver safe, high-quality projects on schedule and within budget.

My client is a Philadelphia-based construction manager and general contractor with a legacy that spans over 100 years. The firm delivers preconstruction, construction management, design-build, and general contracting services across healthcare, higher education, life science, and commercial/corporate markets

Description

  • Lead daily field operations, foremen, and trade partners to execute work plans aligned with project schedule, logistics, and safety goals.
  • Develop, maintain, and communicate look-ahead schedules; sequence work to reduce conflicts and minimize disruptions in active/occupied environments common to healthcare and higher-ed projects.
  • Implement Lean-informed routines (e.g., daily huddles, constraint removal) and leverage construction technology to streamline workflows and decision-making.
  • Champion site safety culture; conduct daily safety walks, enforce company and OSHA standards, and coordinate with Safety leadership.
  • Ensure quality control through inspections, first-work reviews, mockups, and adherence to contract documents and specifications.
  • Manage permits, inspections, and closeout documentation in collaboration with the Project Manager and local authorities.
  • Serve as the single point of on-site authority; coordinate with Project Managers, design teams, owners, and inspectors to maintain design intent and resolve field issues.
  • Lead subcontractor coordination meetings; manage RFIs and field directives; document daily reports, progress photos, and manpower logs.
  • Foster strong relationships consistent with the firm's collaborative, client-focused culture and long-standing reputation in the region.
  • Monitor progress against the master schedule; identify variances early and drive recovery plans.
  • Coordinate site logistics (deliveries, hoisting, shutdowns, infection control barriers, noise/vibration controls) appropriate to complex, sensitive, and occupied facilities.
  • Validate quantities and percent completes to support pay applications and cost controls with the Project Manager.

Profile

  • 10+ years of field leadership experience (Superintendent, General Foreman, or equivalent) delivering commercial or institutional projects; healthcare, higher education, or life science experience strongly preferred.
  • Proven track record coordinating multi-trade teams on complex, occupied-facility projects.
  • Strong grasp of means and methods, building codes, reading drawings/specs, and managing RFIs/submittals.
  • Demonstrated commitment to safety and quality; ability to lead by example on site.
  • Proficiency with construction technology and collaboration platforms used for scheduling, field reporting, and plan management (e.g., look-ahead planning, digital plan sets).
  • Experience with Lean construction practices in the field (pull-planning, daily huddles, constraint tracking).
  • Healthcare construction requirements (e.g., ICRA, interim life safety measures) and shut-down coordination in active facilities.
  • OSHA 30 certification and first aid/CPR.
