The Continuous Improvement Engineer (Automotive) will lead and support the implementation of Operational Excellence initiatives by applying Lean manufacturing tools to improve plant performance, safety, and efficiency. They will coach, train, and certify employees, manage improvement projects, and ensure alignment with strategic goals through data-driven decision-making and daily management practices at the Richmond, KY facility.

My client is a major manufacturer in the automotive industry, focused on producing high-performance glass components used in a wide range of vehicles. Known for their commitment to quality and innovation, they support leading global automotive brands by enhancing vehicle safety, comfort, and efficiency.

With a strong emphasis on lean manufacturing and continuous improvement, the company operates several production sites, including a key U.S. facility. Engineers in this environment will engage in hands-on problem solving, cross-functional collaboration, and technical process optimization across operations and quality functions.

Description

The Continuous Improvement Engineer will:

  • Lead the deployment of Lean/Operational Excellence tools across the plant, starting with pilot areas.
  • Facilitate and support daily management routines (e.g., staff meetings, Gemba walks, war rooms).
  • Coach, train, and certify employees in VOPEX and Lean methodologies.
  • Collaborate with leadership to secure necessary resources for continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Execute and monitor improvement projects focused on safety, quality, efficiency, and productivity.
  • Analyze and use statistical data to drive decision-making and validate project outcomes.
  • Track and report progress of plant initiatives to executive leadership on a regular basis.
  • Develop and implement a roadmap for achieving VOPEX maturity goals.
  • Promote a culture of continuous improvement across production and support areas.
  • Coordinate cross-functional teams to ensure alignment and accountability in improvement efforts.
  • Maintain documentation and performance tracking for all active improvement projects.
  • Support talent development by identifying and recognizing employee contributions to OE efforts.

Profile

The successful applicant will have:

  • Lean Six Sigma Green or BlackBelt required. Applicants without this certification will not be considered.
  • Bachelor's degree in Industrial Engineering, Mechanical, Electrical, or related field.
  • Minimum 3 years of hands-on experience in Lean Manufacturing or Operational Excellence.
  • Strong knowledge of Lean tools (5S, Standard Work, TPM, Problem Solving, Andon, etc.).
  • Proven success leading improvement projects in manufacturing environments.
  • Experience supporting production, quality, maintenance, and support functions.
  • Skilled in data analysis and using statistical methods for decision-making.
  • Ability to coach, train, and develop employees in OE/Lean methodologies.
  • Comfortable working cross-functionally with leadership and shop floor teams.
  • Experience managing multiple projects with measurable outcomes.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills.
  • Fluent in English; effective verbal and written communication.
