Project Accountant

The client we are partnering with is a real estate, building and construction company that are looking for a Project Accountant / Controller to join their team on a permanent basis. The role is based in the Midtown Manhattan office and the successful candidate MUST have prior experience working with the system Yardi.

Client Details

The client are a luxury real estate developer and property manager that manage a number of buildings (both residential and commercial) across New York. The successful candidate will be working very closely with the Project Managers across all the active construction projects. The role is a sole Project Accountant / Construction role and you will be part of a brilliant team. The culture at the business is excellent and they are looking for someone that is keen to build a career at the company.

Description

The successful candidate will:

  • Work closely with Project Managers on all facets of project accounting and administration issues
  • Responsible to the jobsite team and Project Managers to ensure that company policies and procedures are followed with respect to day-to-day accounting functions at the jobsite.
  • Review contract obligations and vendor activities to ensure all contract and monthly invoices have been received and processed
  • Coordinate with Project Managers and supervisor of project accounting to set up new jobs, cost codes, contract, and subcontract accounting records. Assist in the preparation of initial project budgets and control accounts
  • Assists Project Managers with the preparation of the monthly payment request compliant with the applicable contract
  • Evaluate and monitor subcontractor financial requirements related to the performance of their subcontract and monthly payment applications.
  • Ensure the subcontractor is complying with terms and conditions of the contract (i.e. insurance, billing procedures, etc.)
  • Evaluate and determine compliance with subcontract insurance and bond requirements.
  • Perform various detailed month-end allocations for fringe benefits, shared costs and indirect cost allocations
  • Review all month end reconciliations and journal entries prepared by the Project Accountant
  • Prepare monthly reconciliations cost to billing analysis and follow-up and resolve reconciling items
  • Provide Project Managers with cost information and cost trends to prepare monthly cost-to-complete and profit forecasts.
  • Evaluate the adequacy of cost forecasts and alert supervisor of project accounting if project management forecasts are incomplete, inadequate, or unreasonable.
  • Maintain project contract. Enter owner and subcontractor's change orders in the system. Verify the relationship between the owner's change orders vs. Subcontractor's change orders
  • Review monthly project cash flow, compiling support for owner funding
  • Performs additional assignments/functions as assumed through personal initiative or direction form project manager or supervisor of project accounting

Profile

The successful Project Accountant will:

  • Have at least 5 years of experience working in Project Accounting
  • MUST have prior experience using the system YARDI
  • MUST have prior experience working in the construction or real estate industry
  • MUST have prior experience dealing with a high-volume of draw packages
  • Strong Excel skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability working within a small team

Job Offer
