This opportunity is with a New Jersey-based site work and utilities civil construction company typically specializes in underground utility installation, excavation, grading, stormwater systems, water and sewer mains, and comprehensive site development for public and private clients. These firms often provide full‑scope civil construction services, including storm and sanitary sewer installation, water main construction, drainage improvements, earthwork, and heavy highway or commercial site preparation, delivering projects with an emphasis on safety, reliability, and compliance with New Jersey codes and environmental requirements.

Description

  • Review project plans, specifications, and geotechnical reports to understand scope, materials, and construction requirements for site work and utility installations.
  • Prepare detailed cost estimates for earthwork, grading, stormwater systems, water and sewer utilities, and related infrastructure.
  • Develop project schedules that align manpower, equipment, and subcontractors for efficient sequencing of site activities.
  • Coordinate with engineers, owners, inspectors, and subcontractors to clarify design details, resolve issues, and maintain clear communication throughout the project.
  • Manage on-site operations, ensuring work meets quality standards, safety regulations, and environmental requirements.
  • Track costs, production rates, and progress to keep the project within budget and on schedule.
  • Oversee procurement of materials and equipment, ensuring timely delivery to maintain workflow.
  • Identify risks, conflicts, and constructability challenges early and implement solutions to avoid delays.
  • Prepare and manage change orders, RFIs, and project documentation to keep accurate records.
  • Lead project closeout, ensuring final inspections, as‑built documentation, and turnover requirements are met.

Profile

  • Strong technical expertise in earthwork, grading, stormwater management, water/sewer utilities, site preparation, and reading civil engineering plans.
  • Proven experience estimating quantities, materials, equipment needs, labor, and subcontractor costs for civil site projects.
  • Effective project management skills, including scheduling, budget tracking, subcontractor coordination, and overseeing field operations.
  • Ability to interpret and analyze construction documents, geotechnical reports, and municipal specifications to ensure accurate planning and execution.
  • Strong communication and leadership, capable of working closely with engineers, owners, inspectors, field crews, and vendors.
  • Proficiency with construction software, such as estimating tools, scheduling platforms, and project management systems.
  • A track record of delivering projects safely, on time, and within budget while maintaining high quality standards.
  • Problem‑solving skills, especially in identifying constructability issues, conflicts in plans, or site challenges before they impact the schedule.
  • Knowledge of local codes, regulations, permitting processes, and safety requirements specific to site development and utility installation.
  • A proactive, organized, and detail‑oriented mindset with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
